Home EV Chargers sourcing FAQ
Match the charger to the circuit your panel can support: a 40 A charger needs a 50 A breaker, a 48 A charger needs a 60 A breaker. Confirm your service capacity before ordering.
Plug-in units on a NEMA 14-50 are simpler to swap; hardwired units are required for continuous 48 A operation and for most outdoor installations. Listings state which configuration is supplied.
In North America, J1772 covers most non-Tesla vehicles and NACS covers Tesla; adapters exist in both directions. Check the connector field on the listing.
Nearly always, since a new 240 V circuit is involved. Your electrician pulls the permit; the seller supplies the equipment documentation you will need for inspection.
